Boiling crawfish, grilled meats and samples of everything smoked were on the menu at How to BBQ Right/Malcom’s Shop in Hernando.

The grill and barbecue retail business celebrated its first anniversary today on site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Company owner Malcom Reed said March means grilling and barbecue season has begun.

“Mississippi’s grilling season runs roughly from March through Thanksgiving,” according to Reed. “Once January and February are over, people are ready to go out. It’s my favorite time of year, spring.

Reed and his wife Rachelle opened their store last year after running a successful online business. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected their online sales in a good way.

“The store opened in the middle of the pandemic and people started cooking at home,” Reed said. “We had a big influence with people watching our cooking videos and then wanting to buy our products online.”

Reed is the owner and visionary of How to BBQ Right, his passion project that turned into a full-time career. Reed is known locally for his new storefront in Hernando, Malcom’s Shop, which he describes as “a store for the man who cooks.” But he is also recognized around the world – at airports, restaurants and barbecue competitions – for his successful Youtube channel, which has attracted more than a million subscribers.

The Reeds began reaching their online audience in 2010 with a newsletter that Rachelle helped develop through her internet marketing experience. Malcom competed in barbecue competitions with his team, The Killer Hogs, and wanted to document the team’s success. After the How to BBQ Right newsletter garnered 100,000 readers, they moved to Youtube. The Killer Hogs traveled all over the country to participate in barbecue competitions and won almost all of them.

Reed greeted guests Saturday as volunteers handed out hot dogs to everyone.

“We wanted to make hot dogs for the kids, but I think everyone eats them,” Reed said. “We have pellet grill demos, crawfish boil demos, ribs cooked by championship teams, rib eye steak demos, kids games and samples for everyone.”

The challenges of running a small business haven’t deterred the Reeds from creating a flavorful presence in the barbecue industry.

“Small businesses are always tough, I don’t care where you are,” Reed said. “We are learning as we go, it was new for us. We have been doing online retail for twelve years. Once we purchased a building here in Hernando, we really needed office space to run our online business. We had enough room out front to open a small retail space, so we decided to go for it. It was a learning experience. It’s been good, the community loves it and we call it a kind of ‘men’s shop’. You can pick up a cool gift for the man in your life, especially if he likes to cook outside.

Harley Smith, sales rep at Traeger Wood Fired Grills, was handing out skirt steak samples to hungry guests.

“It took about twelve minutes to finish after smoking it for about thirty-five minutes,” Smith explained. “We first smoked it to an internal temperature of about 105, 110 degrees, we turned the grill up to about 375, then we seared it on each side for twelve minutes.”

Smith said he often cooks outside at home as the weather is improving now. He wanted to support Reed as one of his top grill dealers.

“(Reed) is definitely a great representation of the Traeger brand and what people can do with grills,” Smith said. “My favorite thing to cook is probably brisket, ribs or pulled pork.”

Barbecue lovers Rob and Lauren Cook came out from Olive Branch on Saturday to support the Reed business.

“We follow Malcom on Youtube and Mark Williams (of Swine Life BBQ in Hernando),” Robb said. “We use their recipes a lot. We wanted to support him and enjoy the community vibe.

Rob and Lauren have both a pellet and charcoal at home which they use to cook outside. The couple often frequent Malcom’s store for supplies and seasonings.

“He likes to do a lot of pork butts, he’s done ribs a few times,” Lauren said.

Does anyone remember the Yellow Pages? You know those phone books that used to take over almost every kitchen pantry?

Yellow pages still exist, but are mostly digital these days. In their place, of course, are websites. From donuts to doctors, consumers around the world today depend on search engines and websites for information on what to buy, what to eat, what to wear, who to hang out with and, of course, where and from whom to seek treatment.

In my experience, doctors have been some of the last professionals to move from yellow pages ads to website publishing. However, especially for providers in private practice, websites have become almost as essential as exam rooms.

In total, the number of websites worldwide is almost 2 billion. This is a website for four humans inhabiting our planet. Their ubiquity has created a whole new industry over the past 2 decades.

But website developers and online advertisers aren’t the only ones benefiting from the digital age. Some lawyers have also found the Internet to be an extraordinarily effective way to generate business.

In this theme, it’s time to say hello to a new form of litigation traditionally called “drive-by lawsuits”. When the US Congress passed the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990, millions cheered the dawn of a new era. These were people who found themselves stranded in buildings due to a lack of wheelchair access or other barriers that discriminate against people with various disabilities, from visual impairment to HIV in going through autism.

The most visible sign of the ADA’s effects are blue-painted handicap parking spaces in public parking lots and parking lots coast to coast. The ADA legally mandates the spaces. If a company doesn’t provide fully ADA-compliant parking, in some states that have similar laws, you don’t even have to be a customer to sue the company.

This means, for example, if a handicapped parking space is a few inches too narrow or the blue handicapped parking sign is in the wrong place, in these states an attorney can file a lawsuit and collect cash payments plus attorney’s fees. In some places, a successful plaintiff does not have to offer a grace period for a business owner to solve the problem.

Why are they called “drive-through trials?” Because a plaintiff—or a plaintiff’s attorney—just has to randomly lead businesses in the hunt for ADA violations. They don’t even need to enter the business. Sometimes a tape measure is all that’s needed to start a dispute.

As a result, one law firm reports that lawsuits against the ADA have tripled in just 4 years, with New York, Florida and California taking the lion’s share.

Now comes a new version of driving chases. You might call them “click chases”. Enterprising plaintiffs and their attorneys have clung to the convenience of Google, which allows them to identify ADA violations remotely. Here is. An office chair replaced the driver’s seat.

First, attorneys discovered that using Google Earth on their computers could help them find not only ADA parking violations, but also aerial photos of hotel pools without compliant elevators that help people with physical disabilities to get in and out of the water. The increase in lawsuits raises the question of who should worry about becoming a defendant. This is where it gets sticky. The U.S. Department of Justice, the primary federal agency responsible for enforcing the ADA, hasn’t updated regulations in over a decade. The word “website” appears only three times in the text, mainly in reference to the ministry’s website. Accordingly, the consensus within the legal and information technology communities is that, although subsequent official publications indicate that the ADA applies to government websites, federal law and some similar state laws are largely part silent on whether non-government websites must comply.

In my research, I found that the courts were divided on state accessibility laws and I saw no indication that the Department of Justice will begin to enforce the law against private websites. And if they do, what standards will they apply?

To be sure, a set of standards comes from the World Wide Web Consortium [W3C], an international non-profit organization that establishes technical guidelines for publishing websites worldwide. To address the accessibility of websites, the W3C has promulgated the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines [WCAG]a fairly comprehensive set of recommendations aimed primarily at assisting website visitors with visual and hearing impairments.

The problem is that implementing such a comprehensive remedy can be costly for small businesses, as well as large companies with websites containing hundreds or thousands of pages. This leaves most website publishers with only two practical choices: wait for a lawyer’s letter to appear in the mailbox or install special website software available through a monthly subscription.

A variety of software subscriptions are available to increase website accessibility, usually for a monthly fee ranging from $50 to $100. The software allows a visitor to click on a site icon and open a window [to view a number of selections] to adjust font size and color and have a robot read text aloud, among other conveniences.

The software packages are not as robust as the WCAG implementation. But for many website publishers — especially private medical practices — they can dramatically improve website access for people with disabilities, as well as provide protection from unwanted legal attention for an affordable price.

Of course, a website developer still needs to install the software, but that’s usually an easier and relatively less expensive task. In a twist of fate, the best way I know to purchase and select the software is through Google. Type the words “ADA website compatible software” into Google or another search engine, and you should find reviews and vendors galore. Ironically, the cause of the disease thus becomes the cure.

It is unfortunate that the cyber world has hatched so many nefarious schemes, from hackers to phishers to unscrupulous legal beagles. As the novelist Mario Puzo once observed, “A lawyer with a briefcase can rob more than a thousand men with guns.” Fortunately, this only applies to a tiny percentage of lawyers.

As for me, I will never go back to the days of the Yellow Pages. The internet has been instrumental in getting just about everything I’ve sought over the past 2 decades, including advanced college degrees, a spouse, and a handful of valuable healthcare providers. Tax havens are dubious and they are used to dodge all kinds of obligations. From drug lords to terrorists, from kidnappers to fraudsters, tax havens are the favorite hiding place for criminals.

When the Panama Papers were leaked to the media, they revealed how the super-rich were using tax havens to avoid paying their fair share. It was estimated that four fifths money in tax havens there is in violation of the tax laws of other countries.

They may be small islands, but the role of tax havens in the global economy is growing. An investigative journalist calls this world “Moneyland”. Another dubbed it “Kleptopia”. Lawyers and accountants design structures that are deliberately impenetrable.

Although the accounting tricks can be complex, the result is simple.

When multinationals and the mega-rich avoid taxes, you pay more. After all, someone has to pay for pensions and medicine. For every multinational corporation that evades taxes laughing on a beach in the Cayman Islands, there’s a hard-working taxpayer wondering why they’re being asked to pay more.

Tax havens make a mockery of the idea of ​​a level playing field. If you’re a start-up, you’re not afraid to try shifting profits to the Bahamas. Most of the new companies I talk to are more concerned about the lack of rapid antigen testing, skills shortages and slow broadband.

But when overseas-based multinationals use tax havens, Australian companies feel like clean cyclists in a race against Lance Armstrong.

Take the tire recycling business, for example. How could an honest company compete with a company that travels to Panama to avoid its cleaning obligations? In its simplest form, the argument against tax havens can be summed up in three words: it’s not fair.

To be clear, we are not talking about small amounts. According to one estimate, about two fifths profits of multinationals are currently accounted for via tax havens. Aussie moguls have stashed $100 billion in these “treasure islands”. Globally, the amount of money in offshore bank accounts can be as large as one tenth of world GDP.

So what can we do about it? When the OECD and the G20 brought together more than 100 countries to strike a global tax deal last year, campaigners gave them half encouragement. The deal promised a lot, but there was always a risk that it would be delayed. Australia has remained largely on the sidelines, raising questions about how seriously the Morrison government is taking the issue of multinational corporations evading their obligations.

After all, if you want a guide to how liberals view multinational tax avoidance, don’t look at what they say, look at what they do.

In the last Labor government, the Liberals voted against key measures to combat tax evasion, including one that resulted in Chevron paying extra $300 million in taxation. Once elected, they several abandoned measures to close the tax loopholes of multinationals. The little they have done since has had the full support of the Labor Party, but it has not been enough.

It’s not enough to pretend to take action against multinational tax avoidance – you actually have to close the loopholes. If the federal government does not act, shell companies and dirty money will win. And Australia will continue to see abominations like the Stawell tire dump sold to a Panamanian company.

No country has ever dodged taxes on its way to prosperity. If you are not determined to fight tax havens, you are not on the side of the Australians. Only an Albanian Labor government will ensure that the multinationals pay their share.

The exact figure has not been revealed, but reports speculate the sum stands at £12million.

Documents submitted to the court by Ms Giuffre’s solicitor David Boies, written jointly with Andrew’s solicitors, say the Duke of York has pledged to donate a ‘substantial’ amount to the charity Mrs. Guiffre’s charity.

Despite developments in the case, marketing expert Mr Labunski says he ‘remains uncertain’ whether the Duke of York’s birthday on Saturday will be marked by the Queen in a public way.

Typically, Cabinet members’ birthdays are marked on the Royal Family’s social media accounts.

He told Express.co.uk that although he was marked in 2020 “despite the scandals, the prince’s new legal problems and the stripping of all his titles may cause the queen to rethink the tribute”.

He added: “The Royal Family are trying to strike a balance between supporting Prince Andrew as a family while stepping away from him in his official duties.

“The removal of all his positions in organizations shows disapproval.

“Even so, the Queen seems to be offering the Prince allowances as a family.

“Some of these decisions can be weighed against public opinion to strike the right balance.”
