Elkford District Unveils New Website

Good things come to those who wait, and Elkford patiently waited for this moment. The new community website www.elkford.cais finally here!

Residents looking for information on community events, council meetings, property taxes, facility reservations, pool and arena hours, recreation programs, business licensing, urban wildlife, l Law Enforcement, Snow Removal, Building Permits and Inspections, as well as current tourism related information, development applications and directories for businesses, clubs and associations in Elkford can now find what they need. , quickly and easily, on the new Elkford District website.

After more than a decade, Elkford’s old website was no longer functional and in desperate need of an overhaul. An improved communications strategy, including a new website to help residents access essential information, was identified as a strategic priority by the council in 2019. The pandemic has further underscored the importance of access to services and online information for citizens.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience throughout this process,” Elkford Mayor Dean McKerracher said. “After facing long delays, we switched web developers and started over with Breeze Digital, a local company in the Kootenay Rockies, and we are very happy with the final product. The collective effort put into this website by our team and theirs has been tremendous, and we are confident that it will serve the community well for years to come.

The challenge was finding the right people for the job. Elkford has become more than just a mining town: it’s an extraordinary wilderness community, where neighbors know each other by name, wildlife roams the streets and modern amenities unite with mountain culture. The new website had to reflect this.

“We found the ideal web designers at Breeze for this task,” said Director of Corporate Services, Chantel Dawson. “Their team developed a modern design that reflects our organization and pays homage to our seriously fun, WI have heart brand that was created in 2006. However, having full ownership of the content itself was imperative for us. That’s why every word was written by our own people, those who live, work and play in Elkford.

“Over a year of preparation, research and effort went into crafting the content for this website,” added Communications Coordinator Tasha Chorneyko. “We had the expertise to do this internally and each department, as well as board and community members, contributed to the process of writing this content. Our team is proud to call this place home, and our goal was to reflect that while providing Elkford residents – past, present and future – with the ultimate online resource for living in our community.

Several local photographers including Jeff Gifford, Shelly Neault (Wollmann), Judy Zimmer, Jody Christopherson, Ryan Wilson and Stephanie Wells have generously contributed their images of Elkford to help showcase its natural beauty.
